CONTACT ENERGY SCIENCE/GEOTHERMAL RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP
Introduction
In collaboration with Contact Energy Limited, Taheke 8C Incorporation is offering a postgraduate scholarship for a PhD student. As the Incorporation is undertaking an exciting geothermal development, we wish to develop particular research topics that will accrue long term benefits back to the Incorporation and its shareholders. This scholarship has been established to allow a Taheke 8C Incorporation shareholder or descendant to develop expertise in science/geothermal research in New Zealand. The research undertaken will contribute in GNS Science Research Programmes with particular emphasis on geothermal research properties.
The key objectives of the Scholarships are to:
- attract high performing Ngati Pikiao students into science research;
- to promote and encourage excellence in research;
- to encourage postgraduate students to contribute to priority research areas identified by the Incorporation;
- to provide opportunities for students to carry out research with ‘GNS Science’ scientists in established and new quantitative science research programmes;
- to train students at the postgraduate level by sharing and using the combined expertise of university academics, and practising ‘GNS Science’ scientists; and
- to facilitate the professional development of postgraduate students by exposure to an applied commercial research environment.
- PhD – $5,000 p.a for up to three years
- Preference will be given to New Zealand citizens of Ngati Pikiao descent.
- Study must be undertaken within New Zealand (with possibility of some course work being undertaken through an Australian university).
- Candidates must be eligible to undertake at a PhD level at any New Zealand University.
- Candidates must undertake full-time study.
- A suitable university supervisor and ‘GNS Science” co-supervisor must be agreed prior to application.
- There are no age restrictions.
- Study must commence within six months of receiving this scholarship.
